This weeks NPR was actually pretty compelling. As we learned in the first week in class; a story is a series of events. One things leads to another. The guy telling this story did a pretty good job of doing that. He made it a little suspenseful. For example; he did not just say one day my father took all of his money out the bank and buried it in the back yard. He broke it down piece by piece. Before he actually told the action that his father did, he would indicate that his father did something very interesting, leaving the listeners in semi-suspense.
Also he told a story that listeners could relate to. During these economic times, everybody is concerned about their money. Especially with banks having to merge, or having to be bought or sold. There isn’t much trust in the banks right now. This mindset is what also helped contribute to the great depression. The speaker is comparing the times of the great depression to the recession that is occurring at the present time. It is like he is using or giving advice on how to handle this situation because he has personal experience with it.
